Scenario Analyses Regarding Climate Change Hazards and Critical Infrastructure in the Arctic (CCCI)
PhD Summer School 2025
11-15 August 2025, Oslo, Norway
The CCCI PhD summer school is an opportunity for students from partner institutions across three Nordic countries - Norway, Sweden, and Finland - to work on and develop scenario analyses, risk and resilience management strategies as well as climate change adaptation regarding extreme climate change-related hazards and their impacts on critical infrastructure and vital societal functions in the Nordic region.
The CCCI PhD Summer School will take place between Monday, 11 August 2025 and Friday, 15 August 2025 at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute in Oslo, Norway.
We welcome applicants from PhD candidates studying at universities in Norway, Sweden, and Finland. No specific disciplinary background is required to apply, however, we seek to have a good mix of disciplinary backgrounds among the selected PhD candidates.
The goal of the PhD summer school is to provide a policy brief, regarding a specific climate change-induced hazard and its impact on critical infrastructure in an Arctic context. The participants will get a "crash course" on what are various climate change-induced hazards in a rapidly changing Arctic via lectures from academics, policy analysts, and operational actors from across Norway, Sweden, and Finland.
A special focus will be placed on the importance of ensuring the safety of critical infrastructure in the Nordic region, ranging from energy to food security. Notably, in collaboration with Arctic Frontiers and the URSA MAJOR project, virtual reality tools will be discussed and demonstrated, highlighting the novel role they can play to support policy and decision-making for future hazards.
All travel, lodging, and food costs will be covered for the selected participants.
For any specific questions, please reach out directly to the CCCI PhD Summer School Coordinator, Dina Abdel-Fattah (dinaa@met.no).
The deadline to submit an application is Friday, 6 June 2025.
